Google shows results to their customers according to the page rank of website. For getting better page results, Webmasters always tries to do malpractices on their websites. Due to increased malpractices of webmasters, Google started to introduced an algorithm in 2011 on their programs to find good quality content to give genuine results to their customers. And Google always tries to update and introduce new algorithms on time basis.

1) Panda Updation (February, 2011)
Panda Updation is the main updation made by google for catching good quality results. Panda Updation is the google algorithm updation based on content spamming. Content spamming includes malpractices like content duplication, spelling mistakes, content spinning, automated content, thin pages, etc..

2) Penguin Updation (April 2012)

Google started real-time punishment by introducing Penguin 4.0 which came on September 2016.
3) Humming Bird Updation (August 2013)
In this updation, Google started to show some part of the content of website on the search result page itself. After this updation Google, starts to give deep information to their customers.
4) Pigeon Updation ( July 2014)
Updation based on local search engine optimization.
5) Mobilegeddon Updation (April 2015)
Updation based on mobile friendly website. Webmasters forced to do some steps to make their website mobile friendly. Text is readable without tapping or zooming, no horizontal scrolling, tap target space properly, mobile view of web page automatically avoid unplayable content, etc are some steps to become top in page ranking.
6) Parked domain Updation
Many webmasters purchase domains similar to their main domain and publish it without working on it. When users search this non quality domains shows on results. This was a big issue for google. Google decided to stop this by releasing parked domain updation.
